Boy, it is fascinating to do these checklists. I truly haven't had as much fun in such a long time!
I came across this set and found two issues:
- The cards are numbered sequentially but do not start with #1. It begins with #28 through #55. So does the set begin that way, too, or are these NNO? They are not set up by jersey numbers.
- It is showing a Ken Griffey Jr. card as part of the set - already uploaded - but according to a website where I found out information on the set and checklist, the card that's loaded is a fake. His blog is here: http://oddballcardcollector.blogspot.com/2015/03/1988-cal-cards-san-bernardino-spirit.html
I'll await your replies.

I would use the 28-55 numbers. Maybe the previous year was 1-27? Precedent for this exists. I can think of 1992 Conlon Collection TSN right away. A couple wrestling sets come to mind too.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Thanks, I'll go with precedence. The numbering, though, is not from previous seasons, rather it's supposed to go with other minor league teams in the California League to appear as a whole set.

I'm rather upset those Griffeys are shown as fake. I have a couple of them. Feel very genuine to me.

I am the one who uploaded the present picture. Feels like similar smallcompany print cards fromthat era. Did not pay more than a $ for it. In my own checklist, I have it annotated as "white jersey" so whatever reference I used to build this checklist would have it as a legit card. Unless the company came out and disclaimed the card, I don't see it is a fake. A fake tome is a card made to be "exactly" like the real thing. Whoever produced this one didnot try to do that. Maybe it was a card Cal cards produced but decided to go with the dark jersey instead.
It is in my collection and will stay there.

Yeah, it looks nice, and I'd keep it, too.
i agree on the premise of fake being an attempt to deceive, but there's also a different font used on the 34 on the back that I would question.

I have both copies of the Griffey and actually never knew this or really put much effort to look into it. Thanks for the heads up!

I collect Ken Griffey Jr., Ichiro, Leroy Herrmann, and Ty France RCs. I ship in bubble mailers (with DC#), cards in sleeves, cases and team bags unless otherwise worked out with trade partner.

I have the card #34 with the blue jersey (with identical back). Why is only the card with the white jersey shown in the data base? I can upload the other one if desired.
