What's with the cards? No logos, helmets and jerseys that have had any team designation removed, only a 2-3 letter designation for the city with no distinction between the Cubs& White Sox?!?
They look like unlicensed cards. I know Topps has dominated baseball recently, but didn't Panini work out rights with the league before they decided to make a basebal set?!?

Nope - no license with MLB. Can't use logos. Should be able to put city NL or city AL on the cards, so that is just them being lame. Makes it even less desirable to me.

It's been that way for a few years now - since Panini got into the market. Topps holds the exclusive license.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Might as well make up your own cards. No love here for the unlicensed junk.

I don't do baseball but if I did I would pass on Panini and their airbrushing away of all the cool parts of the uniforms.

Without MLB logos, these are just plain hideous. No desire to ever own any of these.

My Autograph Collection Website Emphasis is on the 1969 Cubs. This is still a work in progress as is my collection here at TCDB. Value what you collect, don't collect for value.

I actually bought a hobby box of 2018 Donruss a couple days ago. I haven't opened them yet, because I need to get some of my other cards documented and put away first. I don't want to have a mess of stacked cards taking over my closet.
I do wish that Panini had an MLB license, but I still seem to be drawn to Donruss anyways. Maybe it's just because the Donruss brand name has been around for so long, that I feel it's more legitimate than if I was comparing it to a different type of unlicensed set.
For basketball, Donruss is one of my favorite sets to open and I am thinking this will be the same for baseball. I got a blaster of 2017 Donruss Optic last year and still really enjoyed the cards even though there weren't any logos or team names.

I Love the Donruss/Panini cards. The fun in them is looking for the fans or coaches that they forgot to airbrush. I found a Blue Jays coach and a Mets fan.
The cards are well made and the stats are clean. This is also the second year in a row that I got great cards in my first packs. Last year was a 1/5 Gleybor Torres Press Proof. This year was a variant stat line parallel numbered Judge. I also packed the second Cody Bellinger variant.
They also can’t do Los Angeles NL/AL. Because that’s trademarked as well. “Rookie of the Year” is also trademarked, soy they are stuck with ROYs

For 2018 Donruss, I pulled a Rhys Hoskins auto and a Red Dominators Ohtani SN149. Very cool cards to add to my collection. The box was very fun to open as I expected. I haven't been able to catalog them here yet as I am still waiting on some fixes to be made to the checklist. The Marcell Ozuna base card and VAR are mixed up on the checklist here as well as the base card and VAR for the retro Yoan Moncada cards. Ozuna should be batting in the VAR and Moncada should be throwing in the VAR.
I am also waiting to hear back from Admin if the Variations should even be listed as Short Prints in this set as they seem just as widely printed as the base cards. Even some of the SN parallels have higher SNs on the Variations.
I still have all the cards stacked on top of my boxes until I can get them cataloged properly.

What I don't understand is why they would even bother to make the cards without the license. You don't see unlicensed sports video games, for example. How well can they really sell? I was shocked that they were selling for the same amount as loose Topps packs at my local store and that the values of certain base set cards were greater (according to tradingcarddb) than anything I'd found in those same Topps packs. It also surprises me to see that these are rated so highly here at 7.2/10.
