i'm working on this set and the checklist pictures we have here show either green and blue squares and writing, while mine (which were pulled from packs) show red. Could it be that 1 color is retail, 1 is hobby, and the other is from factory set?

The factory set did not come with checklists. As best as I can tell, there are green or red squares available in Series 1 depending on retail or hobby (I haven't check which is which yet) and Series 2 contains either pink or blue squares.
The update set has blue, red, and green squares available. My guess is they are either from retail, hobby, or jumbo packs.

I would go with Red being retail, since that’s what I pulled them from.

Do they really need to be labled as hobby, retail, etc if we don't really know. Can't we just list them by colors, like series 1 blue, series 1 red or whatever color we might find? It would make it far easier for people like me that tries to collect all colored versions and would not have to know where they were released when looking for them on the site.

I'm with jmiller4. They are all variants of the same card. I haven't checked, but I don't know that we usually list where each variant comes from. We just list that it's a variant. But I suppose, if someone actually knows, that sort of information could go into a note.

I agree with jmiller and V3 - Listed as "Blue", "Red", etc. and if we KNOW that the reds from series 1 came from retail packs, then put that in the release notes and/or trivia.

It's usually put in the Release Notes.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

It's relatively easy to tell where the cards come from with a little research. It just isn't something I have time to do. The checklists for each will list different cards when it gets to the inserts, and some inserts were only available in certain types of packs. It's like that for all Topps checklists from 2000 through 2008. I've been trying to get all of the colors and then I was going to go through and clean up the listings as there is very little consistency from one year to the next on the checklists.
