The box for this set says 1991 Special Stadium Set, all cards and the box have a copyright of 1991, so why is this set labeled as 1992? Even if it was actually sold in 1992 I would still think it was proper if it was labeled as 1991. This is extra confusing as there is also a 1992 version that we have labeled as "1993 Stadium Club Murphy" on TCDB.
I'm guessing the name of the two sets comes from Beckett or something as all the packaging calls it 199X Special Stadium Set which sounds more accurate to me as well.

IIRC, these sets were issued after the seasons, and were considered the next years cards at the time of release - hence the reason all the hobby publications that were around then call this one 1992 - that's what we were calling it at the time of release.

I guess it was released in 1992 but still is confusing since it was advertised as a 1991 set in nearly every aspect. If this was the standard I would argue then that the 2022 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary should be 2023. I'll leave it as is, just found it super confusing in date and name compared to how Topps sold it.

I had to clean up some of my Excel files as I was using the copyright dates for the years. I understand but still wonder why at times.

I agree. Topps calls it and labeled it a 1991 set. How is it different from all the recently delayed and very late issued sets.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Are we also going to go back and find which baseball sets were actually released in December the preceding year and change the dates retroactively on them as well? Please.

Isn’t that kinda arguing the opposite though? Say for example ‘88 Topps was available in December ‘87 (or before). It was marketed and referred to as ‘88 so that’s how it’s listed here. This was marketed and referred to as 1991 but we don’t list it that way because it released on the wrong side of January 1st? Just playing devil’s advocate here, I know we could go round and around. This set did trip me up several times when entering my collection however lol

No, my point being the hobby calls the 1988 Topps set 1988 and the hobby calls the 1992 Dome set 1992 - despite any release dates or names. It's what the hobby has called it for years.

Ah, I misread the part about historical hobby reference. That does change things with this set
