2004-05 Ultra Basketball Forum

I have a base card that does not have the shine/foil effect around the name and Ultra mark in the corner - these are just a flat white. I assume that this is a difference maybe between retail and hobby based on what was done in Ultra sets for other years, but I didn't find the two different sets listed. It looks like the base set is the shiny version - should the "flat"/white set be added as a parallel set?

I am assuming the shiny base is the hobby version, but correct me if I am wrong. I just didn't want to add the flat/retail version without checking if my thinking was correct in the first place. Just surprised it hasn't been listed yet - more likely I am missing it somewhere.

I think you will be quite right.

The Ultra variation for hobby vs. retail was silver foil for retail and holofoil for hobby. To my knowledge, there was no retail version for the 2004-05 Ultra NBA release. What you describe is a printing error where the card missed the foil-printing step before packaging. Any card missing that step would have a white area where the foil should have been OR the picture background where the foil should have been added on top of it.
