Why do some have a white border and others don't? I don't recall ever seeing a border when I collected them as a youth, but I never owned the ones I have with borders so I need to know if there's a reason for that. I hope that they're still authentic.

2nd series cards (#133-263) have a white border.

Wow all these years and I never noticed that. And like a million other sets from the 60s and 70s I have never completed the dang set.

And thanks for bringing it up. I noticed a lot of poor scans. I'll pull out my 1969s and replace what I can.

I was hoping that it was simply a case of 2nd series printing, but I also noticed the card stock is thicker for cards with the border.
Yeah I'll have to scan my Dave Edwards back, which I believe shows someone filling in the answer to the question in red ink.

Knowing Topps and some of their history, the 2nd series was probably done in a different printing facility than the 1st series. Hence, white borders instead of full bleed and slightly different cardstock.

well, my bad, it wasn't this set which had the scan showing the writing. I'll have to locate which one it was.
