1977 Topps Football Forum

I guess I should be more observant, but I just noticed that in the 1977 Topps football set, no helmet decals are present in any of the photos that show a helmet. I assume it was a licencing thing?? Just curious to pick the brains of the knowledgable folks on the site if anyone knew the reason??

Topps had the NFLPA license but not the NFL one, so everything in the 1970s, 1980 and 1981 was missing logos, then the 1982 set has both NFL and NFLPA.

During that same time (and the entire 1980s), Fleer had the NFL license but not the NFLPA one, so all of their cards were team-based and didn't mention any players by name. They didn't put out a set in 1989, then their 1990 set has both NFL and NFLPA.
