Are there a lot of color variations? I have James Jefferson #539b with a red front. However, orange front is pictured. Should we list different front colors as a variance?

No. Beside slight tone/hue variances in the printing process, the biggest problem with thinking you have a different color in your hand is the scanners used by different members. No two scanners will scan exactly alike.

Not to mention the monitor/laptop screen/phone screens you’re viewing them on are all going to be slightly different.

Although considered "taboo" on TCDB, there some interesting color variations out there, back and front ........ and if you look hard enough there are some listed that slipped thru the cracks. Maybe ADMIN deemed them an exception is another possibility.

So does that mean newer listings for cards 478 and 480 should be removed, just asking before I add to want list

That's one for Dan and the L8s.
I do have examples of quite a few color variations, and some have been approved but many have not. At least a 70/30 split.
I'll wait and see.

I'd say YES, even the scans look orange.

Thanks for the answers, I'll have to think about it as if I start then I'm sure all series 2 cards will have the same issue, pretty sure the final updates can be found in light and dark blue

When we're talking shades of colors (even going from blue to purple/violet), that can be attributed to inking levels (not listable here at TCDB).
If you're talking the difference between being red on one version and green on another, that's where they had to change up the plates to create a different color. That is listable here.
Remember, if it takes a change in the print set up (hence the reason for the INC./INC VARs - that's small, but it's a typesetting difference), that is a valid VAR here everytime. If it is a matter of more (or even too much) ink or less ink (to the point of missing a color) which alters the shading (pink vs. red, light blue vs. dark blue, etc.), those usually are not listable here. Due to some very high-profile cases, Admin can make (and has made) exceptions.

Would love to get one in hand to see the differences, but think I'll check to see what doubles I have first to review
