Hi, I'm working through my cards and have found just 4 of this set so far. One of which I think may be a VAR. #195 Stan Thomas on the database picture appears to have 2 asterisks (* *) on the copyright line, the card I have in hand has only one asterisk (*)
Until or unless I find any more I don't know whether this affects multiple cards in this set. For what it's worth, the other 3 cards I have in hand conform to the database picture although, perhaps worryingly, two have 2 asterisks (192,198) and the other has just 1 (186)
My apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, I didnt find anything with a simple search.

OH Dear the dreaded one vs two asterisk variation. That proably means that each and every card in the set will have one of the variants. I know for all the various Donruss sets the painstaking effort of creating a variant/parallel checklist has been done many times, and I know that for many many years Topps did a 1 vs 2 star variant thing usually for Non-Sports cards (and their sticker sets). There are several theories about the reasons for the differences. Some say it is some sort of printing instructions for how to load the sheets of cards into the printer and others have said it is to distinguish between print runs and some have said it is to distinguish between which printing plant the cards were produced. There could be a ton of other reasons for them as well.
On the hand of staying saine I tend not to worry about which version I have, but on the other hand for the sake of the database the desire of many a member to have an accurate history of each and every intended variant must be obeyed.

Usually this was an indicator as to to the sheet or sheet location. Additionally, because of varying set sizes, these are usually confined to a sheet (or multiples of sheets), but in most cases (except for the smaller sets - smaller being defined as 132 cards or less), full runs of variants are rare.
As Kirk stated, since these marks show a difference in the printing that was done on the cards, TCDB will note the different versions, however, we will not add any until much more research is conducted.
And please do no jump to the assumption that all cards in the set have this variation. That may not be case (and history shows this is not usually the case for this type of variant).

Thank you, quite right, absolutely no jumping here! Just pointing this one out. Like Kirk, I don't worry about which version I have but I do want to record it correctly in the database especially for any future trade or PIF.

Somewhere on the east coast, a man with three monster boxes full of these is jumping for joy.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

But he'll never look in them to help out the site.

My understanding of ths set is that each card was printed with two different print codes on back, but I have not taken the time to verify that yet.

To help out the cause, I have found Card #77 Jay Schroeder with * and **. I also think that this set has the E and F variations (found E and COMC.com has F for #562.
I collect the Chiefs and Raiders cards from this year, and don't have many other extras, but I am willing to help identify the entire checklist if others are willing to help.

Bumping this thread.
We got IRs in about "Barry Sanders #38 has a one asterisk (*) and a two asterisk (**) version" and "Barry Sanders #301 has a "E" copyright variation and an "F" copyright variation", but they didn't seem to want to help any further than that. So, I'll put it here.
If someone wants to head up this effort on this set, to determine all the E/F and */** variations, I'll be willing to make the listing, but we need the full list before we will do anything. Thanks.
