I was surprised to get my order of two hobby boxes of Topps Series 1 on Tuesday afternoon (before Wednesday's official release date). I ordered these off the Topps website. Click the images to enlarge.
Hobby boxes now contain 20 packs with 12 cards per pack.
Silver packs contain four cards. I always open these packs last. All of the packaging looks very nice. Let's see how the cards look...
This was the first card out of my first pack and OMG, these look much better in hand than on a computer screen. I won't say why--I'll let you see for yourself. But I'm definitely now a huge fan of this years flagship cards. I'm pretty sure that in 2030, 2024 Topps will be a heavyweight contender for Best Flagship Design.
However, for many collectors the back leaves a lot to be desired. Some will say the backs are plain/bland/vanilla/boring. Others might say the backs are definitely not gaudy, just "minimalist'. I do like how at least one of the stat headers/footers match the team color. The line that runs across the back and encircles the team logo is reminiscent of a somewhat similar (but reversed) design element on the bottom front of 2022 Topps.
There were no inserts or hits in the first pack but there's many more to come. I just hope I can stay awake long enough to open each pack and post the highlights.
