1990-91 Pro Set Hockey Forum

Opened a wax box of series 1 cards yesterday, and noticed something odd...the write-up for each player was in english, however the bio information ( DOB, place, height, etc) was only in french.  Then I compared to a small pile of 50 or so cards I'd previously aquired and those cards had the bio info in both english & french.  Now I do certainly realize that

A - Pro Set 1990/91 hockey had LOTS of errors, and

B - this is about a card set that probably very, very few people even try to collect anymore, but...

Has anybody else run into this issue? 

Looking at the scanned copies of hte cards here on TCD, most seem to be only french for the player bio...

Not really sure if they made 3 versions of this or not. I've noticed a bunch of mine (doing a quick check) are French bio - English info. They don't have an American/Canadian designation in any checklist databases, so it might just be a regional difference.

I think I may know what is happening here. The series 1 cards had all French bio information (info under the player's photo on the back of the card) while the series 2 cards had this same information in both English and Franch. 

If there is a variety of series 1 that had both English and French, or even just an English variant, I have yet to see it. 

They are all like that. Check out a post from Puck Junk a few weeks ago- Pro Set even used the French info as part of their Advertising. By Canadian law they had to either make a French version or include French on the card. They chose to put the bio info in French. 

That law seems to have been changed sometime around 1992.
