Are we going to list the different year hologram backs as a parallel set? I was just adding my Red Wings for the set and noticed three of them had the correct hologram (91 hologram back) and four of them had the 92 hologram back with the Upper Deck diamond logo. To make matters worse, I have a Euro-Stars insert card with a 92 hologram back on it.
Edit: Going through the base set, card #1 has the 92 hologram back and card #2 has the 91 hologram back.

I'm almost 2 years too late, but a little perturbed that A) I never noticed this and B) every double I had of this set is pretty much gone now and I never checked the cards. Grr!
Oh well... looks like I get to build this set again. lol

Oh wow, so that's why my submissions were getting deleted. Nobody ever wrote me a message to tell me that was what's wrong with them!
Makes so much sense now!

I've been doing some digging. Baseball, (I have cards, but I'm not a specialist on the sport, lol,) has many instances where holograms from different set years are used. Some are worth a bit, some are rare, yada yada, it's like an error variant.
After going through 80 cards of my "completed" set, I have found less than 20 that are "base set." I cannot seem to find any info on this, but I'm actually suspecting that it may be an American/Canadian version scenario...
Thoughts?

ok, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to post pictures to this forum. I found two new variants. one has a 91 in the center of the holo with Upper Deck text, the other has 91 around the edges... I has scans to show too!!
Bah, set up an Imgur account. Still don't know what I'm doing lol. https://imgur.com/gallery/dgX3qN1

Can't really see whta the top image is, but from what I understand, that bottom one is what is known as the Text Hologram.

yea... it's a bit of a poor scan. but at card 300 something out of the set and only finding one, it's all I got.
The text hologram doesn't contain numbers. again... 300 some cards in, I've seen both emblem and text in plenty. you have Text, Text with numbers on the edge, and text with numbers around center. it shows up barely in the scan, but it's there
Here's a scan of just text for comaprison https://imgur.com/gallery/vADQNyz
And a darkened first one with the 91 circled. it would be so much better if I could just post them top the forum https://imgur.com/gallery/QCgG3yx

Eurostars and the Brett hull subset have the same problem... I have text and text with numbers for both, as well as emblems for euro's... Man... I feel like I'm being too OCD right now...
ONE MORE edit. Here's a link to what I found on the baseball cards... It kind of looks like UD didn't do anything different on the hockey cards. https://junkwaxgems.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/1991-upper-deck-baseball-hologram-variations-and-more/

Since these aren't really my thing, but from needing to do the proper research to get stuff like this added, I'm not sure there's a difference in the hologram foil used between the "Text" holograms and the "Text w/Numbers" hologram. I think that's all the same. Someone with more UD hologram knowledge would be better to clear that up.

My personal opinion on this issue is that parallel listings for different holograms seems unnecessary. It should be enough to note which holograms are known for which cards (e.g., cards 1-500 can be found with TEXT or UD Logo hologram). To attempt to further split hairs by looking for "TEXT with numbers" seems ridiculous. I'm an error and variant collector, but even I have no interest in looking for differences in the "authenticity" holograms on the card backs. I guess it's similar to the number of "." or "*" after the copywrite on the baseball cards, some collectors care and some do not.

~Rob~ Hockey set collector including inserts, ERR, COR, VAR. Knowledgeable about 1968-69 to 1994-95 hockey. All 1990 and newer cards for trade are NRMT. Expect the same in return. 1989 and older are assigned a grade. Everything on my trade list is available for sale. Reasonable prices based on condition. If it's not on my tradelist, it's not available.
