Our favorite IR submitter (NULL) has informed us of a potential variant set of the Team Checklists. Just like the 1974 set, Topps issued these with one star (*) or two stars (**) in the copyright line. I investigated this and have determined that this is real.
I had a discussion with Admin very recently about these types of variants, and, I know there will be some people who don't like this, it has been decided that varients like these should, in fact, be listed within the same set as VARs, and not as a parallel set.
I will be handling this one (why not?) and will be handling it in this manner:
- All one-star versions will become the [a] version.
- All two-star versions will become the [b] version.
I will keep the images as they are. In other words, if a one-star is already here, I will make that [a] and I will add [b] and vice-versa. The collection data will get messed up. I will request Admin send out a "blast" to all members with these in their collection. That would have been sufficient notification, but that usually happens after the fact, and I seriously wanted to alert as many people as possible as soon as possible. So if you see new cards in the set, don't be alarmed, and please, as always, feel free to add quality scans to the correct locations. (Note - please allow members who have - or have access to - these cards to scan both fronts and backs. This is important in the event that the fronts differ as well, we will have the proper documentation - since these were in fact separate cards either in separate places on the sheet or on different sheets, there is a possibility of other differences existing. This will eliminate any future confusion. Thank you.)
Just to reiterate regarding listing these as VARs and not as a parallel, Topps did not market these as a "chase" ("Get both versions of stars!") or anything like that. They simply are variations of the same card. This method of listing them here also allows collectors to obtain a complete set in two methods - one - having one of each team, regardless of stars, and two - being able to go after both versions of each to have a master set. In either case, it will be easier to track.
If you have any questions about this, or would like to see how you could help out, feel free to reply here, or send me a private message. Thanks.
