Wax packs of 10 cards were still $0.15 for the 3rd and final year before a price increase to $0.20. Complete sets still consisted of only 660 cards for the 5th and final year in a row. Insert sets had not been included in wax packs for 3 years in a row, and would not occur again until the 1990's. Brooks Robinson, Lou Brock, and Joe Torre were still players in the game. The Bronx Zoo was in full swing.
No, I don't remember collecting cards in 1977. I didn't start collecting cards until 10 years later. I had a 1987 Topps "Turn Back the Clock" card of a '77T Reggie Jackson, and could only dream of owning a real one. The 1st "Turn Back the Clock" subset actually appeared in the 1977 Topps set, but it only feature photographs of players, rather than past card designs like the 1986-1990 subsets.
I remember my first 1977 Topps card. It was a Gary Sutherland that I kept in one of those "glass" cases. Even though it doesn't hold much value, I couldn't believe I had gotten my hand one of these cards, and it was probably close to another 20 years before I owned another one. Even though I now own the complete set, I'm still in awe of it.
What are your thoughts and memories of this set, another set of this year, or just collecting during this time period?
