1983 Donruss Magnum P.I. Non-Sport Forum

Why are these listed as a 1983 set, when the cards themselves clearly say c1982? I do see that the wrapper has a 1983 copyright on it, but wouldn't they / shouldn't they be listed where the collector who knows the least would be able to find them? Same question with 1983 (c1982) Knight Rider!

Basically, copyrights have nothing to do with release.

Maybe I’m not being clear. Someone HOLDING the card should be able to use what is ON THE CARD to most easily identify / attribute the card. Instead of “1983 (c1982)” … they would more suitably be called “1982 (released in 1983).”

Aren't there several recent products released each January or February which are tagged by the producing company with the previous calendar year? Weren’t late 80’s Donruss products released in November or December of the year before?

Check out all of the Donruss baseball cards from 1983 to 1992 - they ALL have the previous year's copyright date on them. It is NOT a good way to figure out the year of release (as C2Cigars already pointed out).

I just added these to my collection:
they have "86-87" printed on the star and are copyright 1987,

& listed as 1987-1988;

also, there are many cards/sets that were never released & use the original copyright date(s)/year(s);

- also, sets can be released in 1983 in America, & 1984 in Europe & have a 1982 or 1983 copyright, etc...

there are 2024 cards copyright 2023 & released in 2024

also, look at the covid-19 situation which slowed down the whole world & is STILL affecting designing, copyrighting AND release dates...

SO... the best thing to do is use TCDB & edu-ma-cate yerseff

just saw this:  "2020-21 O-Pee-Chee Hockey copyright 2021"

There are other filters you can use to track down a Card and find where it is listed. You can look it up by card number, brand, and other ways. Are you familiar with that process? It has helped me many times to locate my Card in the database.
