Parallel has been an option as long as I've been here...

Message has been sent to Admin, hope for a quick reply. Will post what I am given so all of you know as well. =)

While I wait for a reply from Admin, I have gone over all the sets that Ranford are in plus the rest of the possible parallels (Again waiting for a final answer) and out of 17 parallel sets (using my main two reference sites) I am out 1 card on three of the sets. Two of them are out on #161 and another with #134. #161 is a Rookie Cristopher Nilstrop, Upper Deck says the cards do not exist in the Emerald Jersey Patch SN75 and the Black Tag Patch SN5 versions but Cardboard Connection does. The other is Devante Smith-Pelly Team Canada card, Upper Deck says it exists but CBC says it doesn't. This is in the Hortizontal Black Tag Patch SN2 set. I have used both Google and eBay to no avail to find that they do or do nto exist. Do I go with the UD site on something so close, my gut tells me that it could be nothing more than a simple mistake like a typo that I should stick with UD in this situation. I am kinda rambling on here but I am ready to fix the checklists tomorrow night so an opinion or two would be helpful. Thanks as always.

Well for those of you who have taken notice of this thread and the topic it covers I have been given an answer that pretty much puts the parallel discussions to a close. Admin has given me an answer to the 2013-14 Upper Deck Artifacts (hockey) set and the answer Admin gives leaves little room for confusion. Here is thier response along with my question :

ADMIN - It looks like this set (2013-14 Upper Deck Artifacts) was set up correctly with the inserts and parallels. (Recieved today at 2:40 PM)

ME - Not sure how often you look at the forums and can not recall if I have asked in the past so I will now (and if I have in the past I apologize). I would REALLY like some final clarification on all of the parallel sets that include autographs, memorabilia or both. Are they considered parallel sets or insert set? I am double checking as I have looked at several years of UD Aritifacts (hockey) and all the different versions of the base set that include more than just a color change are listed as inserts and not parallels. Final decision on the thread more or less was to ask Admin for the correct answer then go from there. I like that idea so here I am. Any info would be fantastic for all future corrections / additions. Good evening. (Sent yesterday at about 8:30 PM)

So with that in mind if a card has an auto or memorabilia on it it is not considered a parallel and is to be listed as an insert. My judgement on this is that a parallel must be exact in all aspects front and back except for the said specific variation. With this, I will do that from this point forward. Hope this thread has been helpful to all here on the DB. But as always stay tuned. Its me! =D

I guess maybe everybody already knew this or ........... maybe its not very important or ................ just not worth commenting on?? I guess I may just have to wing it or wait for Admin to help me out. Thought the info was pretty important plus my questions worth a response. Maybe refreshing the thread to the top will help. =)

I believe if the card is numbers in accodance with the base set it is a parralle. If the card is numbered differently it is a insert. But if it is partial then it is a parralle insert LOL.

I feel a little more confused sadly, obviously card number is not the reference point needed to clarify a parallel otherwise Admin would have stated this you'd think. I would just like a solid clarification as to what makes a parallel set a parallel set. Its looking like its another one of those internet things, go a searching. I hope I am not coming across poorly, just like black and white in front of me to make it sink in better, if that makes any sense.

Ok so since I have gotten no real answers here on the boards and was still confused over a few things I took it upon myself to ask some outside sources to answer the "Parallel" question. I have recieved a response and was quite pleased with how well my question was answered. Here is what I got back :

Thanks for the question. I know exactly what you are talking about. I can't say that I have a better answer than what you've been given, but here is my take on what is a parallel and what is not.

Lets say a set has 100 cards. All 100 cards have a base version, and a gold parallel.

Then lets say the card company has a memorabilia version of those cards. I WOULD call the memorabilia versions a "parallel" IF all 100 cards in the set had a memorabilia parallel.

A lot of times, and it happens with UD sets and Panini as well, they'll create memorabilia and autograph cards that look just like the base cards or another insert set, BUT not all the players have the memorabilia or autograph version.

So in this case, the people who catalog your cards, I think they are correct if they list these types of cards as inserts IF not all the players in the set have the memorabilia version. 

While confusing to list cards that way, I actually think it does make sense. If I think a base set has a memorabilia parallel, but not all players have a memorabilia card from the base set. Then I'm going to get real confused then.  I'd rather those cards get listed out separately so I know who does and doesn't have one.
