I just experienced that when I attempted to add a Destiny's Child PID. I created the new name, and I added the link, but the PID field was blank, and when I searched for the new Destiny's Child page to find the digits and update the link, it still wasn't showing up. Then I realized that my search menu was set to Non-Sports, and the Destiny's Child PID had been created in Gaming. So I had to go to a different music set, find an unlinked card, and add the Destiny's Child name in Non-Sports there, and then search for it again under Non-Sports, and then go back to this set and update the link.

There are going to be quite a few new names added from the music trump sets that are already here and the ones to come. Is it really going to be necessary to do that every time, even if it could be done slightly more efficiently than I wound up doing it? As opposed to just changing the category for the handful of music trump sets already inputted?

I'm not totally following and I'm hoping that Destiny's Child now does not have two PIDs. Each person or entity should have only one. In the future, you either have to change it manually, or create it where it is and then have Admin move it to the proper place. 

I cleaned everything up, yes. There's no Gaming PID for Destiny's Child now. I left out a few steps in my account of the process, sorry. I also had to clear the PIDs a couple of times and update the PID digits a couple of times, but I chalked that up to me being a n00b and didn't mention that part, lol. But actually, I still don't understand why some names auto-link when added and some don't. Destiny's Child, for example. Last night I dealt with the mystery of Chris Wood from Traffic never auto-linking. Baffles me. Anyone know why that happens?

Destiny's child is probably due to the apostrophe.  There are two styles of apostrophe, depending on your keyboard.  Possibly a regional thing. Whichever style is in the original card used to create the PID is the one TCDB picks up automatically.  I've changed dozens, if not hundreds, of apostrophes for the Peter O'Briens of the world, over the years. The best solution now seems to be a copy and paste of the non-matching version as an alias.  Wasn't always an option, but I've done that successfully as recently as Tuesday.   No answer for Chris Wood though.

Basically it comes down to - did someone already add the PID for someone (or did they not have any cards listed before)?

I wind up adding a lot of minor league baseball sets. Very often (especially at the lower levels), some players don't auto link. Occassionally it's a typo in the list that was provided (or in what I put togther) but most of the time, they're "new" to the database. Not a big deal.

Don't forget to change the "Non-Fictional Human" field from "Y" to "N" on bands and groups like Destiny's Child. It's best to do it right away so it's not forgotten and it becomes second nature.
