Exactly. I am so sick of this super very subtle differences that makes a varient and no explanation by the card maker what the difference is. The early "gold" versions of cards usually just had the player's name in gold foil instead of the regular silver foil. Some designs are easier to see the difference than others. Now days Topps somewhat attempts to identify differences by the teeny weeny tiny print in the copyright line that has some kind of code number. If I didn't belong to trading card forums and read the occasional well informed trader's blog I never would have known or thought about looking for a damn unreadable by the naked human eye code number at the bottom of the back of a card.
