Baseball people in the background ... '60s & '70s

by theFalcon - 90 cards (Last updated on Mar 28, 2024)

11. 1962 Topps #434 Clay Dalrymple

A lot of guesswork here ... no. 45 must have been someone who didn't make the team wearing that number during the 1960-62 time frame. Wikipedia says Paul Brown wore no. 34 in 1961, but Baseball Reference disagrees. No. 15 is probably Joe Koppe, but Charley Smith is an outside possibility.

12. 1962 Topps #508 Gordy Coleman

If this is spring training in 1961 or 1962, then no. 29 is Wally Post.

13. 1963 Topps #126 Bob Uecker

Del Crandall (1) at the Polo Grounds in 1962.

14. 1963 Topps #268 Don Demeter

Coach Peanuts Lowrey (3) at the Polo Grounds in 1962.

15. 1964 Kahn's Wieners #NNO Jim Maloney

Probably 1964 spring training with Chet Nichols (34)

16. 1964 Topps #154 Dick Tracewski

Coach Pete Reiser (27) in 1962 at the Polo Grounds

17. 1964 Topps #215 Ray Herbert

Bob Farley (7) at Yankee Stadium in 1962.

18. 1964 Topps #470 Jim Bouton

Joe Pepitone (25) ... looks like spring training, probably in 1964.

19. 1965 Topps #76 Sam McDowell

This one is a mystery to me, but these are my best guesses:

The photo was taken in 1963 ... I think it is in Cleveland ... the guy wearing #17 is probably in a road uniform. It could be Detroit pitcher Frank Lary. Minnesota pitcher Camilo Pascual is another possibility. Boston's Dick Radatz also wore 17, but the guy in the card doesn't look big enough to be him. No on on the Yankees wore #17 in 1963. If I'm wrong and McDowell and #17 are on the same team, then it would be Mike de la Hoz.

20. 1966 Topps #464 Larry Bearnarth

Ed Kranepool (7) ... looks like spring training in 1965 or 1966.

Cool Concept! I don't know haw modern you want to get in the future (since this says 60s & 70s), but here's a couple off the top of my head:

These are action shots, but there are a lot of cool cards featuring an out at 2nd, so that could also be a concept. Just a couple ideas that you could take or leave.

I'm adding about five cards at a time, which is enough work for me ... add in action cards from the '70s and I'll be doing this forever ... a separate list of action-only cards from the 60's and '70s would be more manageable in scope if anyone wants to take a crack at it ... here's a Pete Rose I discovered recently:

Good find, I'm inclined to agree, so I'll add Koosman.
