2018 Card of the Dayby Billy Kingsley - 363 cards (Last updated on Dec 31, 2018) |
152. 2006-07 Fleer - Team Leaders #TL-GA Gilbert Arenas
August 1st, from a large trade with Bevans that I've had stashed since December. |
154. 2015-16 Upper Deck Ice #118 Keegan Lowe
July 30th. I pulled this out of the COMC box that arrived in December 2017, but in retrospect I shouldn't have. Later that day we got our new car, and the first stop was the local card shop, which of course led to new cards. |
155. 1996 Upper Deck Limited Edition Deuce at The Beach #NNO Dale Jarrett
June 29th, my largest ever COMC order arrived, more than 400 cards. It took me until August 8th to scan them all. |
156. 1996-97 SkyBox Z-Force #163 Antoine Walker
June 28th, in trade from tntcardsstg, a date that will always be important, as we ordered our very first ever new car! (2018 Ford Edge Titanium) |
159. 1996-97 SkyBox Premium #142 Luc Longley
July 25th, received in trade from Database member cabz05 |
160. 2017-18 Panini Essentials - Retail #30 Stanley Johnson
July 24th, from a blaster my mom got for me on the 23rd. |
161. 2018 Sports Illustrated for Kids #746 Klay Thompson
June 23rd, from my magazine subscription.

Great start to the project with a serial numbered card!
Yeah that was a nice bonus...but not too surprising considering my COMC habits, lol
Cool Project Billy. | ||
Man I wish Fleer still made NBA cards. Flair cards are awesome.
Thanks Kirk! Me too Shannon. They were my favorite company for the NBA. They still owed me three redemptions when they went under, too!
Man I wish Star still made V I Model Search cards. What is V I anyway?
Based on the copyright on the back it appears to be Venus Swimwear International, with VI standing for Venus International. Yes, I actually read the back!
Very cool project to undertake for the year.
Shouldn't #27 say "January 27th"?
I don't know what you are talking about ;)
Glad you finally got your David Robinson Electric Court! I was looking for it online for you one day, and I remember I ended up seeing two different David Robinsons in that Electric Court checklist and I wasn't sure which one it was you needed. I am pretty sure that after I confirmed it with you, the card I was looking at online was no longer available.
Good move switching to reverse order, Billy.
I was hoping it would make the sample image on the main page change every day, but no such luck.
Thanks Shannon, for a one-per-pack card I don't know why it proved to be so elusive!
That Celtic card is epic!
The Sample card for lists is always the #1 card. You'll have to leave the List Settings for Display as "Ascending" and resort the cards so the newest card is card #1.
I'll try it for now...not sure if I am going to want to put in that effort for the entire year, or will have the time all the time. Chad- thanks! it has a great photo of two of the all-time greatest...and one I had never seen before.
Right now you only have 40 cards to sort into order. After they're sorted it's only a matter of sorting (moving) one card each day.
February 11th card. Look at Dryden's mask and equipment compared to today's. He and goalies of his era and older must look at today's goalies and just mutter "Wimps."
Good add with the Edwards, one of my favorites
I didn't know you were a NASCAR fan Ian, cool!
Not as much as I used to be, but yeah. Becoming a Bubba fan.
Cool! He's one of my favorites already.
ahh, love to see some NASCAR talk! kinda hard finsing a place online to talk it.
Try here DarkSide for race day chats
cool idea, to be this organized

Re: May 1st - Upper Deck Overtime packs are supposed to be an in-store giveaway, like Upper Deck Winter, National Hockey Card Day, Panini Player of the Day, Panini Boxing Day, etc. But like many of the others a large number of the packs always seem to get opened by retailers and sold as singles.
Interesting, thank you. I don't think my local shop participates.
For May 19th, I think you've missed the bus with 2018 Donruss Racing. If they aren't there already, they aren't going to be there soon. Maybe next year, when the mark-downs show up on shelves. But the 'Dinger MEM isn't a bad card. I also pulled one of those from a blaster of 2017 Absolute. Mine had a small part of the Monster Energy logo on the sheet metal. Just be glad it isn't a plain one-color metal! Looks to me like it's easier to pull multi-color MEM's from retail than it is from hobby with Panini Racing cards. I have an order in for 2 hobby boxes of the new 2018 Victory Lane cards. I hope it ends up being worth the money!
I think you are right. My local Target has only brought in two new sets since Christmas, 2018 Topps Baseball and 2017-18 Donruss Optic, which had a Target exclusive. This is bad for me since it's where I get most of my new cards.
The legend, Randy Couture. He sounded the rally siren for Vegas last night before the game, nearly ripped it off the podium.
I didn't recognize who he was, and didn't have the sound up loud enough to hear it... thanks!
One of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. Former heavyweight champion of the world. On to today’s card, I’ve got a ton of these for trade, if you want any, haha. Or any LCS would give em to you beyond price, almost free (Rush pun opportunity, sorry.)
Looks like my bad pun totally killed off the comments, haha. Sorry Billy!
LOL! Well, I did have the list closed off for almost 2 weeks as I was not able to get the scans made that were needed, too...
Maybe a future member of my Discount Superstars list, Dan Fors was also an outfielder for the Orioles, Twins, and Angels.
I'm not sure it's the same guy...that would be cool if it was!
| ||
YW for the Bubba card Billy. I told everyone those cards look much better in-hand than they are in scans! Seems like many people didn't believe me. I'm glad you like the card and I hope you find some blasters of VL soon.
About the checklist for the 2017 BBM 1st version, sorry that was me. It was the first checklist I ever uploaded to the website and obviously, I didn't do a pretty good job with it.
@ October 19th, Darrell Waltrip card. Yes, Billy, I'm sneaky like that.
You're the best kind of sneaky, Chuck!
December 10th, 1990-91 Hoops #85 James Donaldson card. Interesting miscut. The other card to the right is the same exact card. Makes you wonder how many duplicate cards Hoops put on each print sheet.
I was thinking that too. Might explain why this set is so common...also might explain why some cards are much harder to find, if there were only on each sheet once, for example.
Almost done, Billy! | ||
Yeah...I am very much looking forward to it's conclusion. It stopped being fun a while ago.
Thank you, Billy. I know how much work and time were involved in this list/project. And I feel honored that 10 of my cards made the list.
I thank you and everyone else who contributed! I have some stats I made an excel chart of, I will share it in full on Cardboard History tomorrow (in theory) but of the 365 days of the year, 63 of them were gifts from other collectors, and 25 more were trades.
Good thing you had that COMC card. Could you imagine getting to 12/31, realizing your box wasn't the right one, and not getting a new card on the last day?? At least you finished with your favorite player.
Sorry to hear it was such a chore at the end there, but I did enjoy looking every few days to see what you added to your collection that day.
I actually have so many cards stashed up that I could probably keep this project going for at least another 3 or 4 years. I have a box of Sumo cards that SumoMenkoMan sent me that I could do an entire year plus of just Sumo wrestlers, for instance! Thanks Dan, I suspect when I look back on the project in a few years I will enjoy ot more. Not that I will attempt it again! |
