Amazing that a team only 4 years into it's existence could win a World Series, unload the entire team, reload, and then repeat again in 2003. In the process beating the Cubs in the playoffs who couldn't repeat the feat for 108 years. | ||
Over 20 years later and I'm still amazed at the amount of Piazza as a Marlin product that was produced at the time. I mean I get it from the standpoint of the card companies tripping over themeselves to release cards of one of the top players in the game in his brand spanking new uniform. But considering what Miami was doing that year, anyone that thought he'd last the rest of the season in Miami, never mind actually barely lasting the same week (greatest LA to New York layover ever BTW), was kidding themselves. I mean I could have seen them waiting until the dust settled by the August 1st deadline to release their "Piazza on his new team" product, even if it was a team like the Mets, Cubs, or someone that was sure to keep him through the rest of their season, and release what they had of him as a Fish as a special chase card set later in the year or something. |
