This set combined a novel idea and a very lazy design by Topps. On the one hand, it features the great "missing" rookie cards for most of the stars and regulars of the NBA of the early 90s. on the other hand, they simply recycled the Topps baseball card designs for every year. Never in the course of the previous 20 years had blatantly recycled a card design across sports, so I don't know why they thought it would be a good idea for basketball. After 1992, the practice of nearly identical designs across sports would be common place for Topps. Sounds like they got too cheap to retain those graphic artists they employed in earlier years. |
