All-Time NBA Franchise Rankings by bevans
Last updated on Oct 18, 2020

To celebrate the NBA's return, a purely statistical ranking of the NBA's 30 franchises from best to worst. Rankings were based on awarding points for the following achievements:

- 1 point for each 0.500 or better season.
- 4 points for each 50+ Win season.
- 5 points for reaching the Conference (or Division) Finals
- 10 points for reaching the NBA Finals
- 15 points for winning the NBA Championship
- 5 points for a player winning MVP

Points for each achievement are cumulative so a maximum score of 40 points for a season is possible (i.e. if a team wins 50+ games, goes on to win the championship, and one of its players is named MVP). Each team's point total was then divided by its number of years in the league to derive an average season score.

(All stats were current as of the March 12th suspension of the season.)

Signs of the 80s: Leading Scorers by bevans
Last updated on Apr 24, 2020

The 1980s and early 1990s will always represent "my" era of hockey fandom and collecting. I still watch the games, of course, and collect cards of current players, but will never feel the same emotional attachment to today's stars as I do to the players I grew up watching in the 1980s. Since most of the autograph cards I collect feature players from that era anyway, I decided to challenge myself by trying to collect autographed cards from each of the top 100 scorers of the decade. Scoring totals here are based on the 11-year period from 1979-80 through 1989-90.

A complement to my leading scorers list, this one tracks my attempt to collect autographed cards of the top 25 goalie wins leaders of the 1980s. Win totals are based on the 11-year period from 1979-80 through 1989-90.

Curse You, Michael Jordan! by bevans

Sets in my collection which are exactly one card away from completion. That darn Jordan fellow shows up a disproportionate number of times, usually with the result that the one card I'm missing is worth more than the rest of the set combined.

The Dunk: Most Recycled Photo Ever? by bevans

Larry Nance won the NBA's first Slam Dunk Content in 1984, defeating Julius Erving in the final with this iconic windmill jam that I am guessing has been reproduced on cardboard more times than any other image.

A Long Strange Trip by bevans

Stephane Beauregard was a seldom-used backup goaltender who spent five years in the NHL, four of them with the Winnipeg Jets. His journey in the one year away from Winnipeg almost seems too far-fetched to be true.
