One of the premiere cards in this set, probably a tie for second with Helen Moody, Sonja Henie, Max Schmeling and a few others after Babe Ruth. This is Jiro Kuji, a great Japanese catcher who was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in the first induction ever, 1959. He played on the 1934 Japanese team that played against an American team touring in Japan, a team which included Babe Ruth. Jiro was the captain of the team, a title that in Japan was called a trainer. He is described as a trainer on the reverse of this card. Jiro died at the young age of 40 when he was hit by an errant throw in 1939. (The number on the back of the Type 1 and Type 3 cards is #9. Type 2 has no number. The number relates to the page on which it would be attached in the Handbook of Sports.)
