Manny Sarmiento's appearance in the N.L.C.S. was in Game 3. With the Phillies leading 1-0 in the top of the 6th inning, Manny entered the game with the bases loaded and 2 outs, he was able retire Bob Boone on a fly ball to center field. In the 7th inning, a lead off walk to Larry Bowa, a sacrifice bunt by Jim Kaat, a fly ball to left field by Dave Cash, an RBI double by Garry Maddox followed by another RBI double by Mike Schmidt, Manny's day was over, one inning pitched, 2 hits, 2 earned runs and one walk. This would be his only career postseason appearance. The Reds won the game 7-6 and the series 3 games to none. |
