The first pack of cards I ever opened was a pack of 1989 Donruss, I remember because my older cousin who was super into collecting was mad because my first pack ever had a Ken Griffey Jr. The rest is history lol!

The first set I collected. Ripped hundreds of wax packs from the corner store and built an impressive stack of Norm Charlton rookie cards (not surprised to see now that it was DP). At some point I clued in to the existence of hobby shops, card shows and common boxes, and bought my missing singles.

My set is still in the binder, but those cards were meticulously sorted, counted, read and categorized to the point that most would hardly grade VG.

I like busting cheap late 80's/early 90's wax, and 89' Donruss is one of the more aesthetically pleasing boxes of the era to sit and rip, even if there's not much of interest value or rarity wise.
Wanted to mention that I'm pretty sure the * vs ** variation is a 50/50 split, usually in a retail box of 36 the top left/bottom right stacks will be the single asterisk, the other two with the 2nd asterisk.
