Year: 2001
Set: Wheels High Gear (Rate)
Card: #12 Steve Park
“ Right about the time this set was being issued, Steve Park scored his second and final career victory- a week after his team owner and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt was killed on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500. Park suffered some severe head injuries of his own later that year. While under caution at Darlington, his steering wheel came off and turned his car at a near 90 degree angle, into the path of another car coming at full speed, which proceeded to T-bone Park's car in the driver's door. I was watching live on TV, and I knew it was bad when they cut the roof off Park's car and put a tarp over it. (Tarped cars usually mean a driver death). He did return to Cup racing but never found any real success again, and last I knew was racing in the East series on a part time basis. He had previously missed part of his rookie season of 1998 with a broken leg. His father Bob was also a racer and had two cards issued, but I don't know if they are on the Database as yet. ” -Billy Kingsley
“ Two wins in ten years? Methinks Steve doesn't exactly have a "High Gear". ” -UNC_Samurai
