Year: 1990

Set: Donruss (Rate)

Card: #247 Gene Harris

“ Some great sets have been popping up lately, the 80's and early 90's stuff. This was one of those sets that everyone I knew had a ton of, and 27 years later, we just laugh at how worthless they are. It was a fun set to collect. This is very similar to the 91 Fleer that had yellow borders and every Donruss set that seems to come out these days. Also, I think there has never been a sloppier set in terms of errors, variations, and stupid little things that went wrong in printing. Still, I can't bring myself to hate the set. I rather look fondly at it. ” -muskie027

“ I have good memories of this set, even though it is my least favorite Donruss design of my early collecting years. ” -duaned99

“ I really like this design...The early 90s were so great. Great scan, too! Looks just like the card does in real life. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ If Harris would smile he'd look like Griffey, Jr. I really liked this design. Too bad there was a trillion made. ” -Sportzcommish

“ The back of these cards gave me everything I need! ” -carthage44

“ Last time I remember a 1990 Donruss card coming up in RCOTD, it generated a very nice transaction for me. I do have a lot of these. Anyone who needs anything from this set should e-mail me. Funny thing is the fact that I still am not a fan of this set. The front rivals the Topps' design from the same year and the back is the same exact back they used starting in 1985 (making this the 6th straight year!) and even the 82-84 backs only varied slightly from this design. I do like how they got the year on the fronts of all their cards. ” -vrooomed

“ Quite a run recently of 90s MLB. Never a fan of this look. I don't really care for the 100s of variations either (line in name, line not in name etc..). Just a set that is there...and annoying to look at. ” -rmpaq5

“ My beloved Mariners! Love it! I have a ton of cards from this set (yet to enter)...but then again, doesn't everybody! ” -bkklaos

“ I love this set. Always takes me back in time. It looks like he was not expecting that photograph. ” -RoyalChief

“ The set that everyone loves! Photography is nice. Surprisingly, I still need two cards to complete the set: #3 and #210. ” -jayoneill

“ mid overproduced madness Donruss Goodness. At one time when I was really anti overproduced years this set was on my s..er "junk" list of sets. I have since forgiven most card sets produced during those superoverproduced years. I still need to complete this set like 95% of the other sets over the years. I will not go for the nitpicking variants of name with a dot, name above the black line, name below the black line, name missing black line etc... ” -captkirk42

“ Alot of people really pan this set, but for some reason I have always like it.....Donruss always had some interesting borders....I thought the paint splatter was one of the better ones. Too many variations however..... ” -tbshaw

I really like this set. It represents a time when I really got into card collecting, plus it contains the classic RC of my favorite player, John Olerud. I never got into searching out all the errors and variations, save for one - the factory set variation for my Olerud collection.

Not necessarily my fave, but I do like all the ERR/VARs associated with this set. I have a Master set...takes up 2 boxes, lol. Of course being a collector of ERR/VARs, this was a gold mine. I still have collectors asking for the ERR/VARs, ....and I still have some extras!
