Year: 1994

Set: Fleer Extra Bases (Rate)

Card: #131 Pat Kelly

“ I didn't realize they did this size for Baseball, too. I don't know if I've ever seen one before, and I was at card shows almost weekly when this was released. Maybe they weren't popular here, or maybe I just didn't notice. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Looks like an odd sized/shaped card, which tends to annoy me. I have a box that I keep most of my odd cards in, which annoys me, because all my other cards are in binders and neatly sorted. As for everything else, I think they zoomed in too much on him. They should have had a background for the writing, because lots of the writing blends into the uniform. Sadly the back looks better than the front. They should have put the back picture, team logo and the yellow writing would stand out better on the front. ” -davidhandberry

“ Good use of photography with all that real estate. First couple of sets using the tall-boy/wide style was neat, but sadly it was over used, and I dislike them for their odd size in the end. ” -Doc Floyd

“ So much unnecessary extra card. ” -carthage44

“ I remember Pat Kelly. He was never a stud, but a decent Yankee. The odd shaped card isn't my thing. ” -muskie027

“ Ah the 1990s Fleer Tall Boys that I have a love/hate relation with. Plus side the photography and designs for these across the boards and sports are good. The players featured are usually the big name guys or at least big contributors to their individual teams, so team collectors will know who they are at least. On the Negative side, their size and in relation to their size the cardboard thickness is borderline too thin. They tend to get bent and mishandled due to their extra size. Storing them properly is a challenge to many a collector. ” -captkirk42

“ I'm a total sucker for collecting cards of non-conventional dimensions, then getting frustrated at not being able to store them properly. Why have I never seen this set? ” -dilemma19

“ Never saw these on store shelves. ” -NJDevils

“ I had such a love hate for these cards. They are very nice looking cards but not the easiest to store. ” -YoRicha

“ I hate these. They are too tall and impossible to store. ” -royals
