Year: 1998

Set: Topps Opening Day (Rate)

Card: #146 Cal Ripken

“ i had forgotten that Opening Day went this far back. I kind of like these. You can easily distinguish them from the regular set unlike today where the only difference is a little emblem in a corner. ” -davidhandberry

“ Any card of this "legend" I'd be happy to have! ” -bkklaos

“ Ripken's swing wasn't quite like anybody else's. This kinda captures that. ” -Splinter_9

“ I guess this is OK for an Opening Day set. For a flagship set it would be lacking. Better choice of photos could be used the back photo might have been a better choice for the front than the front. ” -captkirk42

“ Cal was real early on that pitch. ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ Great player!! I am not a huge fan of Opening Day, I just find it unnecessary. The card does have a good look to it though. Slightly reminds me of 91 and 92 Leaf, probably because of the coloring. ” -muskie027

“ I love Topps! But, man, they have just too many card sets. And this is one of them. ” -jayoneill

“ Not horrible, but the front looks dingy. ” -kents_stuff

“ almost like this better then the 98 football design ” -Thunderfoot

Little bias here as I am a huge Cal fan, but none the less not a bad looking card.

I much prefer the silver border used on OD than the gold used on flagship for this set. The name plate looks better with the silver.

Just gotta love anything with Cal on it. One of only a few "names" that I actually am persuing. Nice card!
