Year: 1994

Set: Fleer Marvel Masterpieces Hildebrandt Brothers - Gold Foil Signature (Rate)

Card: #139 Xi'an

“ Although I am a DC fan, the Marvel Masterpiece sets are really well done. The name should not include Hildebrant Brothers- they were the artists and wrote the back text, but this series had different artists every year, and for some reason - probably their popularity- their names get tacked onto this year's release. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ That's a nice looking card. ” -ShoTime

“ I had to look this up, seems like he was a character in a comic book years ago. Only a few images including this one so I guess not a major character. It is interesting having the artist names on there, wish it was a real signature not gold foil. The front is decent the back, I wish they had put another picture not the same one from the front. ” -davidhandberry

“ Nice comic related non-sport card. I am not familiar with this character or what series he is from and too lazy to do even a quick search. I like the Hilderbrant Brothers artwork. First noticed them around the 1970s/80s when they did mostly fantasy artwork for book covers and were the main artists for several of the "Lord of The Rings" calendars(as well as several editions of the books) back then. That was way way before the Peter Jackson Movies of the Tolkien books. ” -captkirk42

“ Nice card, sunset pic is really nice. ” -Kirbythedodger

“ Hmmm....not Charlton Heston? ” -NJDevils

“ Are they anything like the Hanson Brothers ” -kirkscards

Never heard of him or the series either for that matter but simply stating "Marvel" is usually going to be a winner.

Billy - a DC fan? You’re dead to me.

Peace and cards,

Building up baseball sets slowly but, well, slowly.

Residence in New England has no bearing on my favorite teams, players, or how I pronounce "card."

Forgave my dad for putting his '52 Mantle in his bike spokes, but not my brother for plastering his room with my Star Wars stickers.

This set was only found at a pharmacy near me as a kid. I think I bought maybe 4 packs. I cherished those cards. I still have them but never bought any other non-sport card sets after this one. The gold foil signatures were amazing. The artwork was intense too. I don't think I've thought about or seen a card from this set in 10 years.

Hey, I've read all of Marvel's stories...years earlier, from DC, before marvel copied them! wink

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
