Year: 1996-97

Set: Hoops (Rate)

Card: #116 Vernon Maxwell

“ Always liked Hoops. A shame the sets aren't like the older sets with more cards. Hoops always looks nice. The backs on this one are real cool. Love it! Can't we get a 400-500 card set? ” -muskie027

“ This is one of the best cards I have seen on RCOTD in a long time. Great action shot on the front. Nice standing shot on the back. I love the college and pro stats on the back, I have never seen that before. The only thing I could possibly see as a negative is that his first name is a little lost in the background, it would have been better to put it in the red triangle in the corner but that is so slight of a problem I would still give it a 10 on the front and an 11 for the back, out of 10. ” -davidhandberry

“ The first thing that popped into my mind is that the facial expressions would make it a great card for PapaG321's Funny Caption thread. ” -rmpaq5

“ This kinda has a Stadium Club vibe to it, especially the back. ” -mkaz80

“ I bet he didn't score here. ” -switzr1

“ Unfortunately, it was at the exact same moment that Mr. Maxwell was taking the ball to the hoop that he realized he shouldn't have gone in on that fourth bean burrito earlier for dinner. ” -Gapporin

“ Nice 1990s card. Front nice design. back pretty cool that they separate the college and pro stats. ” -captkirk42

Argh, I missed a day on Card of the Day and it was a good one. The 1996-97 NBA season is my favorite ever. Just about every long running set saw my favorite issued that year. Hoops, though, frustrated me. The series one design, which this is, was great. Series two looks nothing like it. I'm not sure what they were thinking but if the entire set was in this design, it would have been in the running for my favorite Hoops set as well. I have always hated the series 2 design, but I'm not sure if that's because of the design itself, or simply because it's not this design.

Also, Hoops had full NBA and college statistics from 1990-91 through 1996-97. They also occasionally included playoff statistics and a bio!
