Year: 2018

Set: Panini Elite Extra Edition (Rate)

Card: #84 Cal Raleigh

“ Sounds like a name in The Show where you're in year 2030 of franchise and all the actual MLB players have retired ” -Tylergallo

“ Design is ok. My biggest issues are that you can't really tell what team he is playing on in the card and the generic Seattle instead of Seattle Marines and maybe a logo. I get that these are probably licensing issues and it is my hatred of Topps that gets me missing the old days of multiple sports having the rights to make cards with logos and team names. ” -davidhandberry

“ Is Cal Raleigh the school he went to or his name? ” -UKboogie

“ Who designed this? The guys from the crown molding department at Home Depot? ” -altaeria

“ Beautiful and avant-garde design. The angular stripes on the back remind me a lot of the Skybox Basketball cards of the early '90s. Panini has modernized the trading card design in a way I have never imagined. ” -playmakersradio

“ Hmm I'll try to stay positive. Nice Minor league card. has serial number I see OOOH # 097/999 Nice. Oh drat its baseball non-Topps so no logos or team names, even though he is in a minors uniform and hasn't hit the mother team yet. Some will be disappointed with the duplication of the photo. ” -captkirk42

“ I'm a big fan of EEE. Solid looking cards, the players sometimes have actual uniforms (not airbrushed out) and it's a good way to get cards of prospects. Plus, a box break has good value with all short printed cards and a lot of hits. ” -ketchupman36

“ I like how the lower right just lists 3 places. ” -royals

Just to clarify for you guys, his uniform is Florida State Seminoles. It is pretty funny how Cal, Raleigh, and Seattle are all places though. Two major cities and a shortened state name do make this card interesting.

As for the brand, E3 was pretty cool when Donruss/Playoff made it. Since Panini doesn't have MLB rights, why didn't they just use their NCAA rights to actually make this a college set? They even have the NCAA logo on the back. They have all the rights to use the actual team name and logo (as you can see from the picture). But they want to pretend it's an MLB card. College cards have listed the pro team that drafted players in the past and that's completely fine if they don't use the moniker (aka Mariners in this case). I'd be fine with Panini not making "MLB" cards and just doing college sets of soon-to-be major leaguers and another set of all the MLB Hall of Famers they have licenses to make.

Spaz beat me to the punch. Definitely an FSU uniform. I like college baseball cards and wish there were more of them dedicated to that level of the game.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

OK I admit I am one that called it a Minor League card twice (or more) when it is a College Card. I think it was because it was midnight or past midnight (east coast time before the site switches over to the next day) when I posted my comments.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies).

My Trade List is very much a work in progress
