Monday, April 7, 2008Year: 2007 Although checkered with a controversial past, Cuauhtémoc Blanco is regarded as one of Mexico's best attacking strikers and one of the country's most prolific scorers. For the national team, he has played in 97 international contests and is the 2nd all-time leading goal scorer. He is accredited with inventing a unique soccer move whereby a player hops into the air with the ball gripped surreptitiously between his feet to avoid a defender. He joined the MLS last year, playing for the Chicago Fire and helped the club reach the playoffs. For his efforts, he was later voted as a finalist for both the MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards. |
