Dean’s has something that helps estimate prices?!?! Given that they typically charge about 400% of what everyone else does, I’m pretty curious to see how that works. Perhaps I’ll check it out.

Just my opinion, most cards hold little to no value and depending on the size of your collection, etc. you may have a tough time selling..I've sold many of my cards within the last year and while I won't say that I gave them away, I did sell them very cheap and had very little interest in them...
As others have said, I'd estimate my cards are worth about 10% of book value..
Now, if you have older cards which I'd consider 1970's or earlier, the story could be different but I still think it's tough to find buyers..eBay is always an option but that comes with pitfalls as have been documented here..
I imagine that 20 years from now, my cards will get donated somewhere unless I have grandkids that want them..

The proverbial, "take it with a grain of salt" would certainly apply to the prices here as mentioned by several above already. Again we all secretly wish that our collections would bring the recorded "values" however in only likely a handful would that actually transpire. Rather for likely the majority it's the collecting for the sake of enjoyment which ultimately is the richest reward.

I've found the pricing to be useful as a comparison for a given set. If Card A has a price that's three times the price as Card B, you can look up ebay sold auctions for Card A and have a rough sense of all cards in a set.
Also, selling cards individually will always earn more than selling as a full collection. Of course, it takes much more time to do it this way, so the value of your time also needs to be considered.

This Database has been the Greatest find since my neighbor intoduced me to the fact you could buy Cards at the local store in 1978. I wish I had discovered it years ago. By the time I enter my full Collection I will be able to retire on it but I know its not going to happen. It is fun to look at that Value and in reality it may be what I have in it. I took some advice from Sportzcommish on Trades which amounted to... is it worth it to you to make this Trade? When I do study a Trade I figure if my 1976 Hank Aaron valued at $7 matches with a 1976 Reggie Jackson valued at $5.50 we are pretty close. Do I want some boot or do I want the Reggie Jackson?

I hate to dig up pricing but wanted to offer up a thought on something I think would be a nice change if it wouldn't be too difficult and wanted to see what others thought. How about the idea on the pricing that a member can only enter in a card price 1 time for each card? If I entered in a price two times only the most recent entry would be used for pricing purposes. I have seen many many times where the person with the same ID will spam the pricing by entering in a price multiple (sometimes 5X or more) times and I assume they are doing this to get the median price to reflect what they want to see. It's ridiculous if I go enter a current price of a current card at pennies but it's valued at $2 because someone maybe even years ago entered $2 8 times so the median stays at $2. This also allows me if say I entered a price on a card a year ago and it was worth $1 but now is $.25 to simply enter in the current price and have my older valuation wiped out.

I personally don't even look at the prices that are listed here. When I offer/make a trade I look at Beckett, if its listed. I know there is no way that I would get that price, but I try to be fair. What I mean is, if I have a card that the book value is $10.00 I will try to get something roughly back that is the same book value. Doesn't always happen, depends on how badly I want that card. In my personal collection I put the Beckett prices on my cards. I guess this makes me think that the cards are more valuable than they really are.

Good idea but I’m not totally behind it. If I see some odd pricing I can usually adjust it by entering in some recent eBay sales. If I was limited to just one entry less than half of what I personally see would never get adjusted.
Ive seen a lot of the median price creation that you mentioned. I thought about having those people removed from adding pricing but who knows maybe they buy lots of some players and the entries are legit. Most likely not who knows.

NOT AGAIN ! Pricing posts are back. Terrible inconsistent pricing for both seller and buyer alike. We need a total revamp of this system if it merits validity. That's it !

Someone here has a quote in their signature that sort of fits this thread. Something like, "Someday my cards will double in value and be worth half of what I paid for them."
