Year: 1995-96

Set: Hoops (Rate)

Card: #29 Bobby Phills

“ 1995-96 Hoops was the second NBA set to enter my collection- therefor it holds a big place in my memories and is one of my favorite sets because of it. Design wise it is not all that spectacular though. Phills was killed in a street car accident- he was racing on the highway- and his number is retired by both Charlotte franchises, the team he was playing for at the time. (the first franchise moved to New Orleans in 2002) ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Nice but the name banner looks like some kind of out-o-bounds pylon. Name banners generally look better horizontal across the top or bottom of the card. If using the vertical side use the whole area and make it a border, not an afterthought. ” -captkirk42

“ I really like that they gave you the players college stats. You can never have enough stats. ” -carthage44

Thank goodness I don't have a lot of Cavs to collect from the mid-'90s.  The full card photo and a tolerable back are the only redeeming values I've found to this set.  On the plus side, Phills was a solid contributor on some very average and very boring teams.
