Year: 2001

Set: Upper Deck Vintage - Glory Days (Rate)

Card: #G14 Ken Griffey Jr.

“ OK for an insert, but the backdrop just makes me think somebody put Japan's flag on as a negative. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Love that swing ” -ketchupman36

“ Why is Griffey stuck in the middle of the insignia on a WWII Japanese plane? ” -rmpaq5

“ Awful. It looks like something you got for free for saying you like baseball. Food inserts looked nicer. It looks like he was superimposed on a Japanese Flag, and then someone colored the flag blue. Why the red dot? Why the blue background? Oh God, the reverse just inverts the design and colors. I really hope this is better in hand, cause I don't like it. ” -muskie027

“ Fond memories seeing him play with the Mariners as a kid, even if it was in the Kingdome! ” -bkklaos

“ Nice insert - fits well with the style of the base set. Why no team logo? ” -dilemma19

“ Nice and very very simple can't beat that. Not sure what I like more about it the simple design or the retro vintage feel. I'm not thrilled about the back though it needs a comic or cartoon maybe a trivia question. ” -captkirk42

“ The card looks like it is in a virtual toploader. Would have thought "Glory Days" would be in Seattle for Griffey. ” -sahal694

“ He was so much fun to watch. ” -carthage44

“ I like the use of reversing the colors on the back. ” -NJDevils

“ I always liked Griffey, but when did he go play in Japanese leagues? Were they going for a flag motif with this one? Where's the stars and stripes? ” -Fitz_Rice_Nice_Vikes

“ Great player, great design, great scan ” -hphillips

You would have thought that they would have looked at the graphics on this one and realized it was not an eye appealing card. I know they wanted him to stand out but REALLY!

I would argue Griffey was the second best player ever. Nevere would turn down a chance to grab a Griffey card.

I like vintage. I like inserts. I like throwback designs. That, however, is pretty awful. Did UD try a Rob Broder experiment or something?

Ahhhh!!! You can't DO that.

At the risk of this thread spinning out of control, I must ask who you view the best player ever to be? Ruth? Mays? Aaron?.Bonds? Kelleher?

A Legend and a Hall of Famer deserved a better looking insert than that, what a travesty for Upper Deck and Ken Griffey Jr
