Set: Donruss (Rate)
Card: #86 Jose Abreu
“ I know not to expect anything spectacular from Donruss but this design has a little too much going on ” -ketchupman36
“ I have nothing good to say about this set. As a player collector this reminded me why I quit collecting back in 2000. So many pointless parallels that there are actually parallels in the base set disguised as nickname cards even though they might use the wrong nickname for the player, or even a nickname the player never had. I have heard it said that the lottery is a tax on the stupid, but I think Panini has now usurped that crown. ” -YoRicha
“ I may be in the minority here, but I have enjoyed collecting the Donruss baseball issues the last few years. If only Topps did not have exclusive rights to the team properties, these would be even better! ” -cckeith
“ I've really enjoyed the Donruss designs these past couple years. This would easily be my favorite 'flagship' set of the year if it were officially licensed. ” -mkaz80
“ Nice card has the subtle element of 1984 Donruss with that wavy lines design. Really really hate the unlicensed generic look though. UGH dang exclusive copyright laws. I really wish there was a way team names and logos could be used for unlicensed stuff. Back is an eyesore too black and white generic. UGH the entire set is that way, at least the other teams have their color combos on the front but the backs are all black and white. ” -captkirk42
“ I haven't seen these cards yet, but from this image I kind of like the design. It offers up a tip-of-the-cap to some of the nicer points of their sets from the 1980s, like the logo in the corners, the swoosh lines, etc. I don't think they need to dedicate about 1/5th of the back to corporate branding, though. Some more stats would be nice. ” -kents_stuff
“ If Panini could put out a card with a nice back, they would be great. The Donruss line has a great front everytime. The back....sigh. ” -muskie027
