Random Card of the Day |
Monday, September 3, 2018Year: 2008 Set: Upper Deck - Presidential Predictors (Rate) Card: #PP-14A John McCain / Hillary Clinton “ Wow, a McCain card for comment 32 hours after he dies. And not a very flattering one. ” -C2Cigars
“ A John McCain card for comments hours after he passes.... ” -rmpaq5
“ So RCOTD is McCain (an unlikely politician) the day after he dies. I see an addition to the list of coincidences?!?! Oh, and this card is really reall bad. Awful. Terrible. Can't say enough bad things about it. ” -muskie027
“ Ironic that this one shows up a couple days after McCain's death. I'm not quite sure how these cards worked. Hillary wasn't on the ballot in 2008 (though she ran in the primary). And I'm not sure why McCain is in a Mets uniform. Diamondbacks would have made more sense. ” -switzr1
“ Ironic seeing this pop up ” -Splinter_9
“ If they didn't fudge things a bit I am going to be shocked. I just can't believe that the day after he dies a John McCain cards shows up randomly. That is too much coincidence for me. Not a fan of politics and would stay away from this card. ” -davidhandberry
“ RIP Mr. McCain. Respected from both sides of the political aisle. My Facebook feed has still been highlighted by my friends on both the right and the left offering condolences and personal grieving at his passing. He wasn’t perfect (nobody is, of course) but he truly loved his country and its citizens, and will be missed. ” -Brimose
“ Well this is kinda creepy, no? Maybe the RCOTD isn't so random after all? ” -mkaz80
“ Coincidence? No way. Here the day after John McCain dies. Fun card. I know we are supposed to keep away from politics here, but I liked John McCain a lot. I'm a Dem and would have seriously voted for him in 2000. I thought in 2000 he was the only candidate to understand the gravity of what it means to be president. By 2008, he became another politician (like so many) who sold out some of their principles in order to win. All in all, a great American. After the hell he spent in Vietnam, he could have become a bitter and selfish person (with some justification), but like Bob Dole before him, McCain dedicated his like to public service. A big salute to true American hero and servant of the people! ” -cjjt
“ Has whoever drew this ever seen a human before? I kind of doubt it after seeing this. ” -Billy Kingsley
“ Hmm Must be a forced "random" card due to the passing of Senator McCain. When I first saw these President Race cards back in 2008 (or in late 2007 whenever they were first revealed) I thought they were Hillaryious (OK maybe I shouldn't have cracked that pun) but now 10 years later they tend to just be obnoxious. Back in 2008 to around maybe 2010 I wanted this whole insert set, now in 2018 I'm not so sure I want any of them. I might have one or two I'm not 100% sure. Even though I rarely like Politics I have always liked Political cards. So maybe I do want this whole set. I blame it on the 1972 Politicards Playing card set. This set borrows the political caricature theme of Politicards. ” -captkirk42
“ Crazy he just passed a couple days before this card was featured on Random Card of the Day. RIP ” -carthage44
“ Too soon. ” -parsley24
“ For some reason I like these. However, political items should not be in a baseball card set! ” -KMack
“ Can this really be happenstance? ” -jayoneill
“ Wow. First, this seems destined for the RCOTD coincidences list. Second...back to wow. I'm about to buy a 1938 Goudey Big Head card because I love the complete goofiness of it. This card tops that by quite a bit. And the terrible analogy on the back comparing Piazza v. Clemens to Clinton v. McCain. I...just...wow. ” -Vvvergeer
“ Wow, what timing! McCain dies, and his card comes up. -Or are these cards not really random? Hmm... the world may never know. ” -Doe MG
