I had a 2001 SP Authentic Ladainian Tomlinson Auto, game used, rookie card (I pulled out of the pack myself) I had on cosignment at my local LCS. about a week later he sold the store and took my card with him and never got it back. It was not the new owners fault and I could not hold him liable for the card for it was an agreement when he bought the store That the prevoius owner could keep some of the cards for his personal collection. I never seen the original owner again. Lesson Learned

What is your ebay username? Just for reasons...not because I need to block you from bidding on anything I might ever sell.

Fool me twice... I've had this happen a couple of times recently. I bought one of the 10 pack repack baseball boxes at Target a few weeks ago. When I got home and opened it, I found that all of the packs had been opened and been refilled with older common cards from the 90s. When I looked closer at the box they were packed in, I saw that one of the seams had been opened with a knife then reglued after the cards had been replaced. The reglueing wasn't even that neat but I obviously didn't see it when I bought it. Luckily, Target refunded my money for it.
Fastforward to a couple of days ago. I was at a different Target near me and saw a box of 2017 Topps Fire baseball cards. I hadn't seen those cards available at Target in a while so grabbed the box without looking at it closely. When I went to open it at home, it was wrapped in the type of plastic you would expect but had been sealed up by burning the seams. I then saw that the box had been ripped open at the top and taped back together. I pretty much knew what was coming by then so opened it at the bottom carefully so the taped part was still intact for when I returned it. Sure enough, all of the packs had been opened and I'm sure any really good cards pulled but the remaing cards hadn't been replaced with older cards like the other box.
I'm sure Target will refund my money on this second box but it is still a rip off anyway and really dissapointing when your looking forward to relaxing and opening a new box of cards. I had been trying to look closer at what I bought after my first experience but the second one still sliped through. Hopefully, there won't be a fool me thrice for me.

bamaman,
You won't like my comment but if you took the refund and purposely didn't make the return of the damaged cards, no matter how aggravating the situation was to you, then in my mind you're a thief. And I really think that adds an honorable addition to your US Navy career.

In 2003 or 2004 on a now defunct card forum I purchased a complete set of 1996-97 Topps Chrome. The seller kept most of the rookies which was the biggest cost in the set. The price I paid was for rookies included. I never got the cards or my money back but I did get him banned on the forum so at least he couldn't steal from anyone else.
We had done previous deals that had been flawless, probably about 10, before this. It cost me several hundred dollars that I lost.
I will not buy hand collated sets anymore because they are almost always missing cards, unless they are super cheap. ($5 or less). Just off the top of my head I can think of three sets I bought hand collated that were missing cards. One of the sets is pretty rare, I have never been able to find the missing cards. They are so elusive to me I was beginning to wonder if they even existed but they are scanned on here, so they do exist.
-------------------------------
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I wonder if the ebay seller is on this site, or maybe a friend of his who can send him the story, and now knows the full truth of the story.
As for rip-offs, I have only really had one where it still bothers me when I think about it. I bought and trade from a guy in Toronto when I was posted there. When I trade cards,I always give the other guy the best card I have available if I have multiples of one card (I do this on this site as well). I took it for granted that I was getting the same return. But on one trade (the last one), he mistakenly gave me all of his 1970 cards including the multiples of each. When I started looking them over comparing them to those I was meant to get, I saw that the ones he was intending to give me were the worst of the bunch. Needless to say, I "improved" my cards before I returned those that were not intended in the trade. After returning them, I never heard back from the guy. Just as well as our trading days were over.
As for buying "complete" setsonly to find a card or two missing is so common that it does not surprise me any more. But if they are just commons, then you know it was not intentional or at least less of an issue even though finding commons is more difficult than finding the star cards to complete the set. But I do remember one time in Edmonton at a card shop, I was looking at a Fleer 1989 set that was to have the Griffey RC in it. I asked the owner that for me to buy the set, I would need to confirm that the card was in it. He agreed and sure enough, when I opened the set, the card was not there. He was disappointed but said that this happened too often - people came in his store and while he was distracted, they would open and take the valuable cards out of the sets. I felt sorry for him. He was a younger guy trying to make a business of it. His prices were reasonable but thieves were making it that he could not continue. I did buy the set but at a much reduced price because of the missing card.

Hey - Bulder - give me his info and I will find him. It's what I used to do & still have connections that I can get a bit of info from who still serve....
I HATE A DAMN THIEF!!!!
MY PET PEEVES ARE LITERALLY:
1. Abusers - so called Man (Boy N A man's body) hitting or abusing a woman or child! I will pull off the road & jump into that mess!
2. Thieves - anyone stealing what someone saved or had passed down to them just bcz they need a "fix" or owe a drug dealer! I will hunt them down - I've done it on record and off. I can't be a blunt these days bcz even criminals have rights but they have video cameras everywhere too & all that needs to happen is to habe it show you exacting justice on one!
3. Liars - call me whatever name ya want to, tell me where to go and how to get there but do not LIE TO ME - I will remove thay person from my life that fast, See Ya!
Anyway - That's my mindse on issues and stealing from honest people is wrong.....
