Just mailed a large but thin bubble wrap envelope from Canada to the US. The postal clerk that usually puts it through as a parcel wasn't there and the new person put it through as an envelope. It was $5.15 as opposed to the normal $12 or so. 

The only thing I worry about is that there is no customs slip if it was necessary.

Not required. I have mailed many of them and never put a Custom's slip on them.  As soon as you do, the cost of shipping jumps to parcel mail.

Wow a popular thread today! I live in a city of 35,000 and we have three places for postal services. The CP building itself (where my PO Box is located) and two Shopper's Drug Marts. I have now learned that the CP building is the most expensive. No longer using it as a mail out portal. The SDM locations are nicer people and actually help you save money. Shocker!!

The one I use in my area is a Shopper's Drug Mart as well.  But only the one; the others are less helpful / cooperative.

Smaller offices usually result in better service and therefore cheaper prices. The big locations are trying to get people out as fast as possible b/c there's always a line. The small locations might only see a dozen customers per hour, so they have time to help you ship cheaper. They also have more time to learn all of the available options.
