Just a friendly warning to collectors out there to be cautious with Topps. For those who don't know, Topps has a series known as "Topps Now" in which they produce 4-8 cards daily in honor of the best performances/big moments of the previous day's games. These cards are available for 24 hours only and the print run is limited to the actual number ordered.
In order to help team collectors, Topps added a "Team Reserve" program in which you can basically buy a subscription for the first 5/10/20 Topps Now cards for the team of your choice. The price is a little less than buying each individual card separately, and you get the peace of mind knowing you won't miss a card if you forget to log in and check every day...
...OR SO I THOUGHT...
My father purchased me a 20 card subscription for the Cleveland Indians cards, and there was no problem for the first 7 cards in the series. Every time an Indians card was produced, I would receive an email with an order for that card (sequentially numbered with the original subscription order number followed by "_1", "_2", etc. so you could keep an eye on how many cards you've used in your subscription). I was curious last week when the Indians and Astros had a 10-9 extra inning marathon since I received no order confirmation and was surprised that there was no card for the Indians huge come from behind victory (5 run 9th, 1 home run inthe 13th to retie the game and then a walkoff in the 14th). I checked, and there were actually TWO Cleveland Indians cards from that date (card #254 and #255), and yet I received a confirmation for my order of neither.
I contacted Topps customer service when there were still 3-4 hours left on the 24 hour window and have not yet received a response (the original request was dated May 28). Yesterday, I received an order confirmation ("_8") for card #272 (Francisco Lindor). since I had already received my 7th card and the new one is listed as the 8th, it is clear an order was never placed for the 2 cards from May 27th. I am still waiting on a response from Topps (and updated them with the new information this morning). I checked the TCDB listing for the Topps Now set and found that my subscription also skipped card #208 (Breast Cancer awareness which featured players from NYY, BOS, LAD, and CLE).
I guess my point is that I wanted to vent and to let collectors know that they shouldn't rely on Topps to accurately provide you the cards guaranteed when you purchase a "Team Reserve" subscription. There seems to be some serious holes in their system, and it has potentially cost me 2-3 cards already in the 2018 set.
