I have tried this way twice now since reading your post. I think this will be my new way to sort from now on. My first try I wasn't so sure if I liked it until the last step when it all fell in place.

Like most others I have been using the original: sort into 100s piles, then one by one take a 100 pile and sort by 10s, then put the cards in those 10 piles in order, repeat pricess with next 100s pile.
It took me a second or third reading to figure out this "new" way to sort. The scan from the "Card Collector" software nails the explanation and helped me to actually understand what it does. Thanks for posting it. At first it seems awkward and difficult but the process "sorts" itself out. When you think about it, it is sort of a reverse way of doing it.
Original method sorts: 100s -> 10s -> 1s keeping in groups of the 100s. This method sorts the numbers from left to right.
This second "Card Collector" method sorts: 1s -> 10s -> 100s. This method sorts the numbers from right to left. It probably saves sorting space as well.

Captkirk, I couldn't agree more. I did the same thing when reviewing the 'new' method. Had to get ithe sorting straight in my head before I even tried it. I have used the 'new' method three times and it does make the sorting much quicker. No going back now!!

I'm doing mine in teams. Do u go with the history of each team as well? Example alanta flames became the Calgary flames. So do u put alanta flames with calgary & so on?

I have my cards broken down into 5 categories; Topps Saints, Archie Manning, traded, all other companies, and oddball (food, toy company) Saints. I keep them in 5000 ct. or 2000 ct boxes. I then have made dividers out of thick cardboard, and printed sticky labels by year for all. My trade box also has sticky labels with the name of the team.

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.
