Big yellow box on back - and the copyright.
Their own marking to indicate which set it is from - 2017-18 Panini - Prestige Basketball - seems pretty indicative of "Panini Prestige".
Of course, if you look at the older "Ultra" sets, they clearly have "Fleer Ultra" displayed on the front of the card. We literally can go back and forth on this for 100s of sets, but I will stop here.
It can go either way. I don't really mind either way myself as I will be able to find these cards either way. However, I do think we need to find a way to be consistent thoughout the years so that 1995's Finest is the same at 2005's Finest (or Topps Finest), but any decision should be "global" - even if that means that if some sets display Topps Finest and others are just Finest, we have picked ONE way, and stuck with it. This is the only concern in the matter *I* have.

Yeah, I don't mind either way. I would just like a concrete consistent system one way or the other. What I am concerned about is being able to organize my cards by year and set without worrying about set names changing or moving out of order out of the blue. My vote is to leave things as they are, if only for consistency. But that's just my view on it.

What is a brand? Kind of rhetorical since there isn't a standard defination.
According to GM their brands are (not including 19 non-car brands- AC Delco for instance) :
- Chevrolet
- Buick
- GMC
- Cadillac
- Holden
- Wuling Motors
- Baojun
- Jiefang
so to simply call it a Corvette would not include the actual brand. IMHO the brand would be Chevrolet Corvett
- Company = General Motors
- Brand = Chevrolet
- Product/Model = Corvette
That same logic applied to Topps
- Company = Topps Company Inc.
- Brand = Topps
- Product = Topps Stadium Club
Same logic applied to Pannini ( a little confusing because they retained some brand names upon acquisition and eliminated others) I'm using 2017 football as an example
- Company = Panini Group
- Brand(s) = Panini / Donruss / Score / Playoff / Hoops / .....plus many more (this includes many non-football brands).
- Product = Playoff Contenders / Panini Preferred / Panini Illusions / Panini Immaculate / Panini Prizm / Panini Phoenix / Panini Impeccable / Donruss Ceritied Cuts / Panini XR / Panini Absolute / Donruss (technically Donruss Football but we have categories that make the football part redundant) / ......plus many more

We have Leaf/Donruss on sets from 1985-1988 where Donruss doesn't appear yet some oppose Topps Stadium Club.
Left flabbergasted.....

I agree with your specific examples because that's how most people identify them. Even Fleer Ultra sets produced by Upper Deck were still called exactly that - Fleer Ultra. On the other hand I would hate to see, for example, "Pro Set Parkhurst" and "Upper Deck Parkhurst" and "In The Game Parkhurst".
And perhaps the most absurd example: Score existed for several years before they introduced Pinnacle as their "premium" brand and then subsequently changed the name of the whole company to Pinnacle Brands a couple of years later. So we could have, say, "1991-92 Score Pinnacle" and "1993-94 Pinnacle Score"!

Actually, Optigraphics Inc. changed its name to Pinnacle Brands in 1988 when they introduced the Score brand.
I was talking specifically about what is printed on the front of the cards, not what's in a copyright line.
To further exasperate things, we have all the following set names listed in the database:
Fleer Box Score
Fleer Genuine
Fleer Platinum
Fleer Hot Shots
Fleer Premium
Fleer Showcase
Fleer Tradition
Fleer Metal (and just plain "Metal")
But no FLEER ULTRA.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I agree with Chuck's statement below:
My point is all truncated set names in the database should be corrected to their actual name, i.e, Fleer Ultra, Fleer Metal, ToppsStadium Club, Topps Finest, etc. Aren't we about accuracy and not a few insiders lingo?
