I love buying huge lots and taking forever to go through them. I bought 50 apple boxes from a guy who's father owned them. I told myself that it is for my retirement time, but I still peek at them once in a while. Found a box marked Gramma's cards and still haven't looked at it!

Don't know how you have the will power not to crack into the card boxes. Now that I am back into the hobby two years ago and going through the card lot, I think I could spend my retirment doing this full time.

If it's cardboxes full of random cards, I agree with Mike. I couldn't help but go through them, at least a little bit. Hobby boxes and factory sets is a different scenario if they are sealed. I have quite a bit of sealed product here. But anything that isn't sealed has been looked through at least once!

I'd fall into the "kid in a candy store" lot also. If it's there an open it is begging to be gone through. I just live in a place where you don't find lots like this so I guess I'll never have to test my willpower.

I don't find lots like that around here either. But you never know what will fall in your lap. I never expected to end up with someone's collection of at least 30,000 cards, but here it all is - sitting in front of me. After 3 months, I still don't have half of it catalogued yet (except in my head)!

Box #7 Complete and I have to say this one was exhausting to get through (2,809 cards in total). First the good news: I was able to pull near complete base sets of 2010 UD Series 1 & 2 plus a handful of other commons from other UD sets to add to my PC.
Now the exhausting part. For what ever reason, in the early 90's, card companies (Score, Parkhurst) created different versions of the same set: American, Canadian English, Canadian French, and/or Canadian Bilingual. Not too many Score cards, but two near complete sets of both 1991 Parkhurst English and French plus doubles. Exact same cards for both sets with only different card backs. The only way to verify is to check the backs of every single card.
If that wasn't bad enough, I was feeling some of the pain that other members expressed in entering player collections on this website. For whatever reason, the previous owner had player collections of Mikkael Boedker, James Neal, and John Carlson. Leading to a box total of 2,809 cards from 160 different sets! On to box #8.

Box #8 - another 4,353 cards. This box had a Kris Letang collection leading to cards from 71 different sets. I was able to pull out a number of nearly complete UD hockey base sets: 2007 - Series 1, 2009 - Series 1&2 (378/400), 2014 - Series 1&2 (391/400), 2015 - Series 1&2 (319/400). A few other near complete sets from the early 90's.
Truth be told, I actually skipped what was supposed to be Box #8 since I only saw cards from the early 90's ... that will make the grand finale anticlimatic with a few more boxes to go in the mean time. On to box #9.

Box #9 - an entire five thousand count box of Upper Deck hockey commons ... one of the main reasons why I bought the lot !
4,531 cards from 11 different UD sets. Near complete sets from 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2006, and 2012 - 2016. Haven't quite figured out how many are going into my personal collection, but it is from at least 3 different sets. The stats:

On to box #10, where I know there are more UD commons.

Hockey and baseball in a dead heat. If that was it and this was an election there would be calls for a recount

Box #10 - another box of UD Hockey commons from the flagship issue ... 4,639 cards from 13 different sets. Again a bunch of nearly completed sets and a bunch of traders. Unfortunately, almost all repeated sets from the Hoarder Lot. Only about 30 cards added to the PC. The seller promised over 40,000 cards. Have surpassed that with two boxes to go.
