That's a helpful link Dave, thanks! It shows a card with holofoil and it doesn't show up with the dreaded pink lines- which leads me towards selecting another Epson for scanner #5.
Thank you John...I take pride in doing it right. My mindset is do it right or not at all.
Kyle...I learned long ago that some things scan better in a sleeve or page.
This card was scanned in a penny sleeve.
As long as you take the time to correct the image you CAN scan in a penny sleeve with no trouble. Most people simply don't bother to correct them. I've scanned probably about 2 dozen cards in sleeves, and I would guarantee no one will ever know which ones...because I don't even remember. The Miller was scanned in a sleeve because Topps applied some of the adhesive holding the jersey piece in place on the top of the jersey, so it's lived in a sleeve since I pulled it from a pack in 2004. Scanning in a toploader, NOT recommneded, too much depth for most scanners to handle and they are usually covered in scratches, plus they are tinted- not fully clear like sleeves are.

The new scanner has been ordered so a week from Monday or sooner it will be here. I went with the free shipping instead of the pay $50 to get it three days sooner, this will give me time to go through lots of boxes and pull out mirror foils and Finests to scan them first, before the tray gets dirty. Lots of work ahead for me, but I'm not sure looking through boxes after boxes of cards counts as work.

I thought site guidelines were "naked" scans, no elevation, no sleeve, no protection (that could cause reflection). If so, I've never submitted an "acceptable" scan here (a penny sleeve is the absolute minimum to sit on my scanner), though I do my darndest to submit (and encourage others to) as near Billy quality scans as possible. Just his hint in PhotoScape on rotation has changed my life.
I agree that random photos at various angles should not be acceptable, but personally I'd prefer a professionally done photo cropped to site guidelines over many scans I've seen (trolloing the depths of the site as I seem to have been doing).
Personally, I wish there was an exception, globally, for /10 or less (/25?). Any image is better than none, IMHO. I don't want trash images to clutter this site for base stuff, just feel there should be a scarcity exception. But it's not my playground and I do my best to abide by the rules set.

The computer does not recognize the scanner at all.
The drivers that are supplied with a scanner often need to be updated when the operating system of a computer is updated. Scanner manufacturers usually provide new drivers for updated operating systems on their websites. When you download and install a new driver, your computer usually recognizes the scanner either immediately or after a computer is restarted. I have a ten-year-old scanner been through 5 or 7 driver updates and it still works fine.

Epson vs Brother ................ no contest. Epson in a TKO. Still use the Brother as main scanner as it is a multi use in my office and can not be removed. My Epson is for slabbed and hard to scan beasts.

Have you tried to place it on the scanner but turn it 45 degrees? To see if that would make the lines go away then you could turn it in photo-shop. so it's straight again. It is a moiré pattern from light waves. I use Gimp instead of photo shop and I have an add-on that cleans that up moiré patterns.
