Saturday, August 10 is the day it goes down. The promotion focuses on a few different aspects, all centering around raising the profile of baseball cards. The big one is free cards being handed out at participating card shops. The set is exclusive to the promotion and you can expect the checklist to spotlight top MLB stars.
In addition to the free packs, there are a couple of additional cards for those making a qualifying purchase at participating shops. On August 10, it’s a Bryce Harper card. A week later, on August 17, a new Vladimir Guerrero Jr. card expands the 2019 National Baseball Card Day checklist. The idea here is to get collectors to return to participating shops.
With the campaign, shop owners can make events out of it.
Topps has also made similar team-focused sets for stadium giveaways. These happen in the days and weeks leading up to National Baseball Card Day.
MLB and the players also get in on the promotional efforts, particularly on social media and at the ballpark by busting packs.

Might end up in St. Louis tomorrow so I might stop in one of the shops there. If not, I'll stop off in Columbia at a shop I've been meaning to hit. To be honest, I'd rather have the Vlad Jr. card than the Harper, but oh well. Walmart and Target have joined in this year as well, but I'm not sure I'll hit them up. This is the first time I'll be able to participate in the event so I'm a little excited.

So, my baseball card shop -- the closest to DC, does not appear to be participating. I don't feel like driving for over an hour one-way to the closest participating shop, especially because I remain way over budget for the year, and wouldn't be able to buy anything.
I'm also slightly surprised National Baseball Card Day isn't being talked about more here, since this is, you know, a card-collecting site. But, hey, maybe everyone's mowing the lawn. Speaking of which....
After that, I'll celebrate quietly at home by sorting cards.

with closest card shops over 30 minutes away, it was so much easier and cheaper to buy the 2 cards i wanted on Ebay for about 4 bucks each.

Drove past one, stopped in with my son. There were 5 workers in there, and 4 of them (the first 4 I spoke with) had no clue. I explained that they were listed on Topps site as a participating dealer so they should have some clue. Finally, one guy came out and said yes, they had a box. This was an hour after they opened, and I guess we were the first people to ask.
The guy that knew they had stuff still had to look up how the program worked. I told him exactly how it worked, and then he confirmed what I told him. :)
We got 2 packs (1 each). I'll be adding scans this afternoon. :)

Hoping to hit my local shop on the way home from work. Maybe get some Topps Chrome while I'm at it.
Pulled an auto last year and the guy that runs the shop helped me finish the base set.

Our local store is very sparse. They only sell by the box so there's not a chance to just pick up a pack. So I grabbed an insert card a buddy of mine wanted for a buck and got the free pack. It was a little discouraging to look through their single cards for sale and see that they'd already broken open numerous packs and had the singles for sale but then would only give me one pack even though I had my 2 year old with me too. I'm still glad I went and free cards are free cards but they could do it better than they do at my shop.

My son, wife, and I hit up the closet shop to us about 40 miles away. Ended up with 3 packs, Bought some Ultra Pro sheets, boxes, and 5 $6 packs of Topps Chrome. Seemed pretty high at $1.50 per card, but my son wanted the Harper card. Best card we got was a Acuna Prism refractor.
