What's the most popular way to organize commons? By manufacturer, team, player? I don't need them to be all that accessible but would like in some order. Have like 10k commons.

I'd suggest by sport, year, manufacturer, set then number. Should make finding them a bit easier.

I only collect Topps baseball so it's kind of easy for me. But I'd go first manufacturer, then by year/set, then in numerical order.

I keep an Excel file for all my cards to organize by Year, Series, Sub-Set, Number, FirstName, LastName, Team, Amount, Location, etc...
I can litteraly find the location of just about any card I own within seconds.

Aren't the commons part of sets?
In that case commons are organized w/ their respect sets.
Then year, and make.

Thus far I have been doing it a totally different way , albeit likely less than 500 or so at this point. Alphabetically only nothing further !

If you intend to trade the cards, I suggest organizing to match how the trade wizzard works and displays cards:
By sport: baseball > basketball > football > hockey etc.
By year: oldest to newest
Alphabetically by Brand: donruss > fleer > leaf > topps > upper deck etc.
Finally by card number within sets with inserts at the end.
That way you can pull the cards in the same order you see the cards listed in the trade proposal.
Just a suggestion but it helps when you're dealing with huge numbers of cards.
Good luck

Dukeydevil the only thing that I do differently is I seperate my Inserts and they are in their own boxes. They are organized by year, manufacturer alphebetically and then by number. It makes it easier when you are juggling 50,000 plus commons in a room that is 11X13 and is also your office. Once I have more room I might do it a little differently but it's nice not having to move 6 to 9 5000 boxes full of cards to get that one insert card you need for a trade.
