I had some money from he Holidays to spend, and everytime I went to Target there were hardly any cards available. I actually ended up going to Walmart yesterday and found they had a lot more in stock than Target which is unusual. I picked up a blaster of 2019-20 Hoops Winter, and a blaster of 2019-20 Donruss. Up until then I hadn't seen Donruss anywhere. I also picked up a rack pack of 2019 Topps Gallery.
Admittedly, I am very budget conscious and for whatever reason I always feel guilty spending money on things for myself. So to me, getting two blasters and a rack pack in one day felt like a bit of a frivelous splurge.
I opened up the rack pack of Topps Galley, and wow these cards are gorgeous. I almost wish that I had got more than just a rack pack. I am always amazed at the Topps Gallery cards, but I usually have a hard time finding them. They are also a bit on the pricey side for how many cards you get. They fact that they seem to come out after the baseball season is already over usually prevents me from getting them as well. By this time I have moved on to basketball.
I opened up the Hoops Winter blaster and it was pretty cool, but I couldn't help by feel kind of silly that I bought more Hoops cards that I essentially already have, although this time with a snow design on them. I really like Winter time (even though a Winter here in the desert is probably more like Spring to most people) and I guess Panini sucked me in pretty good with this release haha. I got some pretty cool cards, highlight being a Charles Barkley Tribute subset card in a Suns jersey. Most of the inserts were a bit of a letdown, too many rookies and not enough veterans. I got a Rookie Sweater card which was very unique, but it is of a 2nd round pick end of the bench guy as usual and a portion of the thread is coming up and out of the card so it looks kind of messy. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this blaster as much as I thought I would, but I am glad I gave it a try. Maybe I will look back at these cards in the future and appreciate them more. But right now I kind of wish I had got a blaster of Topps Gallery instead.
I haven't opened up the Donruss blaster yet, which is kind of funny because that it the main thing I was looking for. Hopefully that one will be fun. I can't remember a time Donruss basketball hasn't been fun to open for me.
Just a thought after typing this, my household has been on one income for a couple years now since we decided to have my wife stay home with my son until he is in school. Since then I have really limited myself to just getting a rack pack of cards every now and then. I think I am realizing that the less I get at a time, the more I actually enjoy them. I may have mentioned this before but after yesterday, I think my feeling on that is even more solidified. This may actually be the last time I get so many cards at one time. Even though my wife tells me I am being silly for feeling this way, I can't help but feel guilty and I'm not really sure why.
