So I'm browsing Cubs T206s on eBay and find one that catches my eye. Johnny Evers (HOF). It's ungraded, but looks, well, immaculate. Clean corners. Glistening white borders. Perfectly centered. PSA 9 or 10 worthy. Advertised as an authentic, 1911 card. There's one bid for $25. The card would value at... thousands?...if authentic. The seller has zero feedback and has been a member of Ebay since June 12, 2020.
First, there's a feedback question by eBay, which I've never seen before. It asked if the listing was helpful in my decision to buy. The response was anonymous. So I said, no, it was not helpful because I was 99.3 percent certain it was a counterfeit card.
Second, I sent the seller a message, asking if he would guarantee that when I sent the card to PSA for grading (something I've never done), it won't come back as a fake. Like money back and pay for the grading guarantee. He actually responded this morning, saying, Yes, if it sold for enough, he would guarantee that. I tried to respond by saying that I was impressed and would watch the auction. Alas, I could not respond because the listing was gone and the seller is no longer part of eBay.
THAT didn't last very long, did it, Buddy?
He was iamthetr_7, in case he tries to return. (That was quite satisfying)
